2. Pelton turbines

The Pelton turbine, an example of which is shown in figure 10 , is a partial-injection, free-vein turbine, with its impeller rotating in air. The expansion of water to atmospheric pressure takes place entirely in the machine's distributor, with energy available at the impeller inlet solely in the form of kinetic energy, which corresponds to the definition of an action machine. This turbine has no diffuser; water flows freely out of the impeller.
