8.1 Combined energy production
Polygeneration is a multifaceted approach to combined energy production, involving the joint supply of electricity, heat and cooling from a single primary energy source. It enables a more efficient use of resources and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, while offering greater flexibility in the management of energy resources. One of the advantages of polygeneration is that it maximizes energy efficiency, because by exploiting several products from a single source, polygeneration systems can achieve much higher energy yields than conventional energy production systems
