2. Dimensional analysis

The laws of similitude for compressible fluids lead to simple relationships only if the gas is ideally perfect: this assumption is retained in the rest of the development.

Note :

a perfect gas follows Joule's law: γ, c p = f (T ). An ideal perfect gas is often defined by: γ, c p = Cte.

Under these conditions, the operation of a compressible fluid turbomachine is defined by the following variables:

  • the machine's geometric dimensions, which are characterized by a reference lengthR ; this is often the wheel's outer radius ;

  • the nature of the fluid, characterized by :

    • the perfect gas constant...
