2. Evolution of a gout

2.1 General assumptions

In a combustion furnace, the fuel droplets coming from the injectors reach a stabilized state after a certain time, insofar as their velocity becomes locally equal to that of the surrounding gas, and their temperature becomes equal to the saturation vapour temperature of the liquid at furnace pressure, assumed to be constant and uniform.

The drops are also suspended in the gaseous mixture of gaseous fuel, oxidizer and combustion products. They are generally in the minority by volume. In some cases (e.g. certain mists), even the volume of the minority phase is neglected.

The suspension may be more or less dense, i.e. comprise a greater or lesser proportion of condensed particles by volume; it may be monodisperse...
