5. Conclusion

Industrialists and occupational health and safety specialists have repeatedly expressed the need for tools to solve the problem of noise emitted by compressed air-powered equipment. The difficulties stemmed from the absence of standardized, comprehensible specifications that could be used directly in industry, and that would enable the right choice of silencers to be made. In this context, and with the aim of meeting the recommendations of the Machinery and Physical Agents (Noise) Directives, the research project conducted on the acoustic characterization of silencers, and the subject of this article, has resulted in a simple methodology, based on recognized theoretical aspects and validated by numerous tests.
