The notations C, f, F, H, P, t, U, W, v, θ, ω and γ may vary in the article with the position of a mass and be assigned an index corresponding to this position:

  • 0 for the initial position ;

  • x , f , ... for the distance from the initial position ;

  • θ, ... for the angle of rotation with respect to the initial position ;

  • M for maximum distance.

The elastic potential W is a function of the deflection f of the spring; the notation W is assigned an index corresponding to this deflection.
