 INTRODUCTION

In this article, which follows on from the form on circular rings and arches with varied end conditions [Form. B 5 021] , we consider single-span straight beams, the basic element of the most common civil engineering constructions and structures.

Without going back over the geometrical and mechanical resistance characteristics of the usual sections, which were the subject of a previous article [Form. B 5 020] , we propose a method for calculating the stresses of cross-sections by integrating the effects of force or unit torque. Current programming tools (spreadsheets) will enable us to solve the most complex load cases. A simple application example is developed in detail.

The results of the most frequent simple load cases are shown in the table 1 at the end of this article.
