5.1 Spindle-machine linkage mechanism

On indoor broaching machines, the broach is connected to the machine by a push or pull system, often supplemented by a lifting device. These devices are themselves attached to the movement mechanisms by means of self-guiding crosspieces, guaranteeing that the whole assembly moves in line with the axis of the workpiece to be broached. On outdoor broaching machines, the often numerous broaches are mounted on the slide, which acts as a linear cutting carriage. The movement is controlled either by a hydraulic cylinder, or by an electromechanical device (see § 5.4
