6. Integrating surfaces into solid models

It has been stressed that surface models and solid models have been defined in parallel. However, most of the objects we want to model are volumetric, with left-handed external surfaces. It is therefore necessary to consider the integration of left-handed surfaces in solid models, which can be done using the B-Rep approach or the CSG approach (or its extension to parametric design).

6.1 B-Rep approach

For simplicity's sake, two main families of models can be envisaged:

  • models using approximations ;

  • models based on the assembly of faces or objects ;

  • Implementing approximations
