steel; acier

Iron-carbon alloy.

AISI; AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute)

American institute that publishes standards for steels, often used even in Europe. The result is a major simplification of designations: for example, steel X5CrNi18-10 becomes steel 304.

ajour; perforation

Hole cut in the center of a blank or part.

elongation at break; total elongation

Elongation reached when a tensile specimen is broken by removing the elastic part. Symbol A, expressed in %.

allongement réparti; uniform elongation

Elongation corresponding to the onset of diffuse stress, i.e. the peak of the tensile curve representing the force divided by the initial cross-sectional area...
