3. Impact bending impact test
Impact bending is a relatively important test for characterizing a welded joint. It is used to determine whether the joint is ductile or brittle. Standard NF EN ISO 148-1, dated November 1, 2011, gives details of how to perform this type of test. This standard is general and applies to metallic materials.
This type of test is carried out on notched parallelepiped specimens. Specimen dimensions are standardized (NF EN ISO 148-1). There are two types of notch: U-notch and V-notch. The latter are the most penalizing in terms of impact resistance. They are the most widely used. In most cases, impact bending tests are carried out using a Charpy sheep (figure 11 ).
