2. Tensile test
Standard NF EN ISO 6892-1 provides guidelines for carrying out tensile tests on metallic materials at room temperature. This standard is used to set up the tests (shape and size of specimens, calibration of testing machines, etc.), as well as to carry out measurements following tensile tests (determination of yield strength, stress at break, elongation at break, etc.). There are specific standards for tensile testing of welded joints. Standard NF EN ISO 4136 specifies the particularities of the tensile test most commonly used in the welding world: the transverse weld seam tensile test on a butt joint. Standard NF EN ISO 5178 specifies the longitudinal tensile test on a cylindrical specimen, mainly used to characterize the mechanical properties of molten metal on a butt or fillet weld. Finally, there is a specific standard for tensile tests on fillet welds (cross or clinch welds): NF EN ISO...
