4. Conclusion

This article describes the most commonly used destructive tests for welded assemblies. Before carrying out these destructive tests, it is advisable to refer to the standards and codes in use in the country concerned and for the mechanically-welded fabrication in question. Destructive tests on welded assemblies, as on solid materials, must be carried out in accordance with the applicable standards and codes. All destructive tests must be documented by a test report. As mentioned in this article, there are other destructive tests applicable to welded joints. These are generally specific to welding processes (resistance welding) or to the mechanical behavior or in-service expectations of the part: fatigue testing of welded joints, crack propagation testing (CTOD)... These are not covered in this article. For their application, please refer directly to the applicable standards or codes....
