4. Conclusion

From what has been said above, it is clear that luminescent nanomaterials, based on semiconductors or doped ceramics, present special features both in terms of modifying and controlling their emission, and in terms of possible interactions with their environment. This can be controlled by their size, but also by fine engineering of the defects and dopants incorporated. In addition, energy transfer at very small sizes offers unique possibilities for spectral modification. These nanomaterials are likely to have a major impact on the manufacture of optical frequency converters.
