6. Conclusion and outlook

The physical chemistry of nanographenes is still under development, and while many interesting electronic properties have been predicted by theoretical researchers, they have yet to be confirmed experimentally. The main obstacle at this stage of development remains the efficient synthesis, in sufficient quantities, of nanographenes that are pure and homogeneous in size and geometry. As rapid top-down synthesis methods do not satisfy this last criterion, the exploration of different bottom-up constructive approaches is currently the focus of many research laboratories around the world. However, these methods involving organic synthesis are more time-consuming and subject to more constraints, such as the solubility of the compounds obtained and their analyzability.
