1.1 Definition and Classifications
AM encompasses a set of processes that create objects by adding material layer by layer based on a digital model (Figure 1 ). Unlike subtractive or molding processes, AM allows for great design flexibility without the need for specialized tooling. When applied to polymers, it enables the direct transformation of solid materials (filaments, powders), liquids (resins), or semi-solids (inks, pastes) into complex parts.
