1. Follow-up of Hiroshima and Nagasaki irradiated populations
Studies of the populations irradiated in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the bombings of 1945 have provided much of the knowledge on the health effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. This is due to the quality of the health monitoring carried out on these populations, the wide range of doses received by individuals, the efforts made in dosimetric reconstructions, the total number of people exposed and their diversity, in terms of age, sex, sensitivity and initial state of health.
The cohort of Hiroshima and Nagasaki "irradiated" victims included 120,321 people, selected according to a geographical criterion and a survival criterion 5 years after the date of the explosion
