3. Long-term management of very low-level waste

This category of waste was created at the end of the 1990s, when a waste management policy was established for basic nuclear installations (INBs) to deal with the large flows of waste that would be generated by nuclear facilities to be dismantled, in particular first-generation reactors [BN 3 657] .

This doctrine is formalized in the decree of December 31, 1999, the principles of which are described in paragraph 3.1.1.

This led to the creation of a dedicated storage facility in the commune of Morvilliers, 2 km from the Aube storage center (figure 19 ).
