1. Nuclear reactor physics and nuclear physics

Nuclear physics is one of the basic disciplines required to study nuclear systems.

While the focus here is on nuclear fission reactors and the associated fuel cycle (figure 1 a ), other nuclear applications should also be mentioned: thermonuclear fusion machines (magnetic confinement in a tokamak and inertial confinement by laser), particle gas pedals, hybrid nuclear accelerator/subcritical reactor systems, nuclear medicine, space, various industrial devices such as food irradiators, and so on. As a result, we also cover phenomena relating to the transport of neutral and charged particles in the so-called "intermediate" energy range, from 20 MeV to a few gigaelectron volts.
