4. Conclusions – outlook
Biogas and its energy recovery offer an alternative to clean energy production, with room for improvement in France. Nevertheless, socioeconomic indicators predict growth in this sector in the coming years. The goal for 2050 is self-sufficiency in biomethane through increased production and a 50% reduction in consumption.
Among the various challenges and technical choices involved in designing a biogas recovery system, the treatment of trace compounds is too often overlooked, resulting in premature and unexpected equipment degradation. These compounds pose a significant problem for equipment despite their low concentrations compared to methane, the target molecule in biogas. Siloxanes and halogenated and/or sulfur compounds pose a major risk of equipment degradation, which has a direct impact on the economic balance of the process.
