3. Thermal effects in the aquifer at the injector well

There is no thermal effect in the aquifer around the producing well. However, a thermal drainage zone develops around the reinjector well, as the temperature of the reinjected water is different from that in the aquifer.

3.1 Heat transfer in the aquifer

The speed of heat transmission in the aquifer is very different from the speed of hydraulic flow. Hydraulic displacements are very slow, and the temperature gradient must propagate to both pore water and solid rock material in order to progress. We must therefore consider a global thermal convection velocity v t that expresses the advancement of the average temperature front T in the entire aquifer (water + rock) (
