6. Become compliant

Until recently, implementing an energy management system (EMS) in accordance with ISO 50001 was a voluntary process, although strongly recommended by national and international authorities. The Energy Efficiency Act ( Directive européenne sur l’efficacité énergétique du 13 septembre 2023 ), in force since January 1, 2024, imposes new obligations on companies based on their energy consumption.

If your annual energy consumption exceeds 23.7 GWh/year, you must implement an EMS certified according to ISO 50001.

If your annual consumption exceeds 2.77 GWh/year, you are required to carry out an energy audit every four years in accordance with NF EN 16247 standards. The audit must be carried out...
