1. What are industrial utilities?

The aim of this section is to present the main industrial utilities and how they are produced in different industries.

1.1 Definition

Industrial utilities are the energy needed to keep industrial processes running smoothly, whatever the type of company. Commonly referred to as industrial fluids or energy fluids, they are generally divided into several groups, depending on their origin, nature and specific characteristics. They may be heat or cold, steam or electricity. In other words, industrial utilities are all the energy fluids distributed to an industrial site's production lines. These fluids circulate from generators, pumps or transformers and supply the various processes. This definition shows that utilities are diverse and varied.
