3. Ecodesign of photovoltaic systems

Photovoltaic electricity is developed and deployed precisely to reduce the ecological footprint, particularly the carbon footprint of the energy sector, but not only. The photovoltaic industry's "emblematic" ecological label obliges it to be "exemplary" in terms of "sustainability" in the full sense of the term, both environmental and societal. And yet, like all technological achievements, PV systems generate impacts that are sometimes criticized. In particular, since solar energy is diffuse and sparse, capturing and converting it requires considerable surface area and quantities of materials over long periods of time. We therefore need to assess the contribution and impact of this energy source, right from the system design stage, which should be based on eco-design
