4. Use of coal

Table 6 presents a simplified view of the correlations between the most relevant characteristics of coals and the two main families of uses: thermal use (steam coal) –, mainly for electricity generation, with the occasional addition of industrial use –, and use as a raw material for the steel industry, transforming coal into coke.
