6. Handling

6.1 Protection of devices and equipment

Generally, when coal is received and before it is put into storage, a scalping device with coarse mesh adapted to the grain size of the coal received is installed, designed to stop foreign bodies and oversized lumps. This device vibrates to prevent clogging in the presence of moist coal. A slight slope allows the screen to clean itself.

The foreign-body containment system is rounded off by the installation of derusters and, in some cases, non-magnetic element detectors designed to retain ferrous and non-ferrous metal pieces. They are judiciously placed to protect handling circuits and combustion equipment.
