2. Insulation classification

There are different ways of classifying insulation.

2.1 Depending on their origin

Animal or plant origin. For thermal insulation, only cork is sometimes used, and more rarely compounds based on wood fibers and shavings.

Mineral origin. These include glass and rock mineral wools, glass fibers, silicates, ceramics, cellular glass, perlite and vermiculite.

Synthetic origin. These are products obtained by polymerization in foam form. They include polyurethanes and polyisocyanurates, polystyrenes, phenolic foams, polyethylenes and flexible elastomers.
