1. Operating principle

Absorption machines are trithermal heat converters presented in the article [BE 9 734] (Heat converters. Refrigerating machines. Heat pumps. Thermotransformers). The driving energy is heat via thermal compression, unlike conventional liquid chillers in which the driving energy is provided by mechanical compression.

The nature of the components in an absorption unit and a mechanical compression unit differs only in the compression element (figure 1 ).
