7. Evaporator and refrigerant

The evaporator is one of the major refrigeration components in a refrigeration appliance. It acts as the interface between the refrigeration system, of which it is an essential part (the cold source), and the air circulating in the cabinet. It absorbs heat from various sources and balances the cabinet's overall heat balance by maintaining the application temperature t i .

Various types of evaporator can be distinguished according to the cold distribution modes used, the most common of which are :

  • forced convection evaporator for convective cooling ;

  • natural convection evaporator ;

  • contact evaporator or "cold plate" for conductive cooling.
