Conclusion

Lighting is on the cusp of tremendous progress thanks to the emergence of new electronic light technologies. LEDs, and soon OLEDs, will account for over 80% of the lighting market in the near future. These technologies will bring more intelligence to the programmed management of our lighting to meet the social, environmental and economic challenges facing our society.

In particular, there is a growing need for more efficient lighting in the face of rising work demands (mental workload, stress) and "visual health" factors linked to an ageing population and a growing number of visually impaired people (a survey carried out in 2005 revealed a workforce of 3,335,000 visually impaired people, of whom 1,750,000 met the criteria for visual impairment).
