1.1 Families and types

Clay roofing tiles can be divided into three families, according to their general geometry and the way they are joined together to make the roof watertight.

• Interlocking or sliding tiles make up the first family, itself divided into two types according to the geometry of the tile's extrados and the positioning of the longitudinal interlocking plane in relation to the run-off plane:

  • interlocking or slip tiles with relief (figure 1 a );

  • flat interlocking tiles (figure 1 b )....
