3. Construction principles

The construction of the staircase could be laid out in the order of the building site, from foundation to cladding and painting. This is fine for checking the project and writing a routine description, but does nothing to help the design process. The latter is firstly the invention of a form, and only then the stability and ambience checks, which must respect the desired appearance.

3.1 Shape and stability. Overall design

The staircase is traditionally a masterpiece of craftsmanship. All too often, the refined technology of detail causes us to lose sight of the fact that stability is first and foremost the result of an overall scheme that links all the elements together.
