5. The special case of dry toilets
5.1 Principle
One of the innovations of the decree of September 7, 2009, establishing the technical requirements applicable to on-site wastewater treatment systems receiving a gross organic pollution load of 1.2 kg/day of BOD₅ or less, is to authorize and regulate specifically dry toilets as a sustainable on-site sanitation technology for single-family homes.
This is not about temporary dry toilets—the kind used at large events—but rather about facilities designed for long-term use on a specific plot of land.
Article 17 of this order states that:
