4. Water treatment systems (Decree of September 7, 2009)

Prior to the publication of the decree of September 7, 2009, establishing the technical requirements applicable to on-site wastewater treatment systems, small wastewater treatment plants were considered to provide only pretreatment, just like septic tanks. The 2009 decree put an end to this situation and stipulates that “domestic wastewater may also be treated by systems comprising devices approved by the ministries responsible for ecology and health, following an assessment of the systems’ effectiveness and the risks they may pose, directly or indirectly, to health and the environment ."

In other words, an approval process has been established for this type of device in order to:
