1. Dimensioning procedure according to EC 3-DAN

In the iterative process of dimensioning a steel structure as described in [ C 2 550 , § 2], we assume that we are at the end of step 4, i.e. that we have the geometric and mechanical characteristics of the various components, as well as the distribution of internal forces in the structure.

Step 5, which is of interest to us here, consists in ensuring that the beams are correctly dimensioned, by checking that all risks of disorder have been eliminated. These risks fall into two main categories:

  • risks of structural failure or collapse linked to ultimate limit states (ELU), which directly endanger human safety;

  • risks of unserviceability or functional inadequacy of the structure linked to serviceability...
