The coupling between shapes and forces has given rise to a number of studies grouped under the heading of structural morphology. .

The emergence of lightweight structures has necessitated the development of new numerical models to facilitate the morphological definition of constructions.

The purpose of the term shape search is to determine the geometric coordinates of a structure when coupled with a system of external and/or internal actions.
