Concept of a BFM identity card for a given industrial application

A mechanical characterization test is a mechanical test that provides data used in a dimensioning method or numerical analysis.

This means that a mechanical test can be a mechanical characterization test in the case of a dimensioning method relating to one or more industrial applications, and no longer be so in relation to other industrial applications. One example is the uniaxial tensile test, which may be a characterization test for dimensioning methods relating to structural elements such as beams, but may no longer be a characterization test for dimensioning methods relating to slabs laid on elastic ground.
