6. Conclusion

Geometric non-linear calculation has become indispensable for modern structures, as optimized design leads to flexible, slender structures. This calculation enables us to model the actual behavior of structures in a realistic way, and to identify possible design and safety margins.

However, it is important to couple geometric non-linearity with material non-linearity, depending on the elastoplastic properties of the materials. Today's high-performance computational software can handle highly complex problems involving couplings between different types of nonlinearity.
