Hydraulic road binders are characterized by a certain number of criteria measured conventionally, either on powder, paste or "normal mortar" (standardized mixture of hydraulic road binder, sand and water defined by European standard NF EN 196-1).

It is used to measure the fineness of grind of a hydraulic road binder.
