3. Pavement recycling
Compared with in-place asphalt recycling, pavement recycling is characterized by the fact that it involves a thickness such that at least part of the recycled material does not contain bitumen.
Schematically, the operation consists in fragmenting the existing (thin) pavement and all or part of the underlying base course, and mixing the whole with one (or two) binder(s). If the asphalt thickness exceeds 5 cm, it may be worthwhile removing it by milling and reprocessing only the "white" part. The milled asphalt can be recycled elsewhere.
All pavement reprofiling operations are carried out using cold techniques, enabling wet materials to be processed.
Regardless of the type of reprocessing chosen, subsequent coating is mandatory.
