6. Concrete casings, tanks, basins and pools

All structures are subject to the pressure of water or other liquids. These pressures may be exerted from the outside inwards (casings) or from the inside outwards (tanks), or these two actions may alternate depending on the state of filling (basins and swimming pools).

They have different types of joints that need to be sealed:

  • construction joints (concreting) ;

  • shrinkage and expansion joints (which can be avoided if the structure is made of prestressed concrete) ;

  • pipe penetration points ;

  • cracks.
