3. Quality of water intended for human consumption in France and changes in regulations

3.1 Regulations in force since 2007

A number of texts are currently used to control pollution of water intended for human consumption (EDCH) in France. These include

  • law on water and aquatic environments n° 2006-1772 of December 30, 2006 ;

  • water law no. 92-3 of January 3, 1992 ;

  • Directive 98/83/EC of November 3, 1998 on the quality of drinking water intended for human consumption ;

  • Decree no. 2001-1220 of December 20, 2001 on EDCH, excluding natural mineral waters;

  • decree no. 89-369 of June 6, 1989 on natural mineral waters and pre-packaged drinking water;
