1.1.1 Terminology

A tide is the periodic movement that affects the general level of the seas and oceans, the most frequent manifestation of which, particularly on the French coast, is an oscillation of highly variable amplitude (from 0.3 to 15 m) and a period of the order of magnitude of half a day or a day.

The vocabulary related to tides is rich because of its importance in human life.
