5. Fatigue actions

5.1 Origins and standards

  • Fatigue actions, resulting from stress fluctuations, can come from the following sources:

    • superimposed moving loads, including machine vibrations in fixed structures ;

    • loads due to exposure conditions, such as wind, swell, etc. ;

    • acceleration forces in moving structures ;

    • dynamic response due to resonance effects.

  • Fatigue loads are generally defined in the various parts of Eurocode 1 :

    • NF EN 1991-1-4 for wind ;

    • NF EN 1991-2 for bridges ;
