Although various propulsion systems are, in principle, possible (diesel, gas), electric traction, powered by an external supply, remains the universal mode of urban tramways because of its technical and ecological advantages:

  • low operating noise ;

  • total absence of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions;

  • unrivalled acceleration performance ;

  • regenerative braking ;

  • low maintenance ;

  • longevity of equipment and vehicles, etc.
