6. Key principles and challenges of alternative stormwater management
In a context marked by increasing urbanization and climate change, traditional stormwater management, based mainly on rapid evacuation to collective sewer systems, is proving increasingly difficult to implement, and is sometimes undesirable.
A promising alternative is Alternative Stormwater Management (ASM) (see figure 41 ), a strategy inspired by nature to effectively control flood risks and preserve the health of urban ecosystems.
