Landfill as hazardous waste

Some contaminated sludge or the residues from its treatment have properties that classify them as hazardous waste. Similarly, residues from the incineration of sludge containing heavy metals or other toxic products are final waste.

The treatment methods described above are not applicable to this type of waste. It is therefore necessary to landfill them in an engineered landfill suitable for hazardous waste.

The ministerial decree of December 30, 2002 stipulates that hazardous waste storage facilities (ISDD) are facilities designed to dispose of such waste by depositing or burying it in or on the ground. This also includes sites used for the temporary storage of hazardous waste.
