Labor legislation imposes obligations when the health and safety of those working on a site may be at stake. A bridge repair project often involves working at height, using products that may contain aggressive or toxic substances, etc. The presence of a Health and Safety Coordinator (HSC) is normally required. Safety data sheets (SDS) provide information on the precautions to be taken when using the various repair products.

The French Environment Code requires site waste to be managed according to different procedures, depending on the risks involved. Waste is classified into three categories:
