4. Temporary or permanent consolidation
Often invisible, steel components such as sheet piling, micropiles, precast piles or injected tie rods are essential structural elements in preliminary rehabilitation work. Such work is generally essential to ensure the longevity of the structures to be modified or restored.
The first phase of a rehabilitation project often involves supporting, consolidating and/or dewatering foundation structures in order to repair and/or consolidate them. These techniques greatly facilitate the definitive stabilization of old structures whose buried structures have been weakened, either by faulty construction conditions, or by deterioration caused by differential settlement, variations in the water table or poorly controlled previous interventions.
