2. Different types of MEWPs

2.1 General

There are several types of MEWPs on the market, each with a different design.

These different types are described in data sheets that describe their main characteristics, their performance, their most frequent uses, and their main advantages and disadvantages.

European standard EN 280 defines three types of MEWPs:

• type 1: travel only permitted with work platform in transport position (folded position);

• type 2: translation with the work platform in the raised position can only be controlled by a device located on the chassis;
